How To Fade Your Video Using Film Dissolve Effect?

In Premiere Pro all video / audio effects are located under Effects Tab (Use Shift + 7 keyboard shortcut to open Effects Panel) on the UI.

To apply fade in and fade out effects to your video, you need to find it on the list of effects.

There are many effect folders. Searching is the fastest way to find fade effects (but it's called film dissolve).

After you press Shift + 7 Premiere will open a list of all available effects, and a small search box on top.

Start typing dissolve into the search box. Premiere will open only folders that contain the word dissolve. I recommend following this workflow for finding any video effect, not just fading.

I've been using Premiere Pro CC 2020 to edit all of my YouTube videos. There is simply no better tool for video editing. One of the first Premiere Pro effects I learned was fade in and out.

Fading in starts with a black background and fade into the beginning of your video clip, whereas fading out means turning the screen black at the end of your clip.

There is no actual fade in or fade out effect in Premiere Pro. But both can be created using the same video transition called Film Dissolve. It's one of the several video transitions found in Video Transitions folder:

How to add fade in and fade out in premiere pro? It's the same as premiere pro fade out video effect. Professional film editors call it dissolve transition.

To make video fade in and fade out transitions one of the easiest way to do that in Adobe Premire Pro CC 2020 is by using the Film Dissolve transition.

Film Dissolve can be found under Effects Tab > Video Transitions > Dissolve > Film Dissolve.

Simply drag and drop the Film Dissolve effect over the edge of one of your video clips. It will automatically add the fade in or out effect, depending on whether it was attached to the beginning or end of your clip.

You can change the length of the fade in or fade out effects. Once the Film Dissolve effect is applied to the video, click on the effect itself inside the video clip and drag it by its edge. Choose any length you want for your fade in to last.

Fade In and Out Using Video Opacity Animation (Stopwatch Button)

There is another way to fade in and out in Premiere Pro. This can be accomplished by animating the opacity function of your clip.

First, select the clip you want to fade in or fade out. Then, go to the Effect Controls tab and find the Opacity function.

To fade in, click on the stopwatch icon next to Opacity. Then, keyframe the opacity by clicking at different points in the clip. Make sure the opacity is set to 0% at the beginning of the clip, and 100% at the end.

To fade out, do the same thing but in reverse. Set the opacity to 100% at the beginning of the clip, and 0% at the end.

You can also fade in and out audio using the same method. Just go to the Audio Effects tab and find the Fade In and Fade Out effects. Drag these onto your clips to fade the audio in or out.
