    discord add spoiler text

Type message, select a span of text, click on eye button to add spoiler text.

You can also type double pipe character || around a span of text to add spoiler blackout around it. Which is the same thing as what happens when you use the eye button.

There is another, easier way for people who prefer not to touch the mouse. That's by using two guardrail characters around the text you want to spoiler.

How to black out spoiler around your text Without mouse, using two guardrail (double pipe) characters:

To add black out spoiler tag and hide part of your Discord message:

    • Start typing the message into your chat text area.
    • Type two guardrail characters || to indicate where black out will start.
    • Finish writing your message.
    • Add another double guardrail character || where you want black out to end.

You can black out part of, or entire message by wrapping it in double pipe characters, as if they were parenthesis.

All you need to do is type double pipe || character around the area of text you want to spoiler. Or select text and click on the eye button.

There is a video tutorial below if you want to see Spoiler Tags in action:

Watch this YouTube video to see how spoiler tags can be added to your message:

To add spoiler images, paste the image into the input box. The same eye button appears. Click on it to make your image blurry when it appears to everyone else in the channel.

    How to add spoiler image?

But what if you want to blur out an image post on Discord? Contrary to the black out text, the image will remain too blurry to see, until it's clicked.

To add spoiler blur to the image:

    • Copy and paste the image into discord chat.
    • Eye button will appear on the edge of the image.
    • Click on the eye button to add spoiler to the image.
    • Hit enter key as usual to send the message.

Now the posted image will appear blurry until clicked.

What Is Spoiler Text Used For On Discord?

Here are several reasons why you would want to use spoiler text on Discord:

    • To avoid ruining surprises in movies, TV shows, and books.
    • To allow users to opt-in to see spoilers if they choose.
    • To prevent accidental exposure to spoilers.
    • To maintain the integrity of competition results in games or sports.
    • To prevent confusion in discussing plot points of multiple works with similar names.
    • To avoid spoilers in online forums for live events.
    • To maintain the sense of mystery and excitement in games with unannounced features.
    • To avoid confusion in discussions of historical events.
    • To respect the preferences of those who prefer to avoid spoilers.
    • To maintain fairness in online gaming communities by preventing early information from being shared.
